The Level 3 Behavioural Detection Officer (BDO) qualification is an advanced operational course designed for individuals working, or seeking to work, in public-facing security and safeguarding roles. The course provides learners with the knowledge and practical skills required to detect hostile reconnaissance, identify suspicious behaviour and deploy professionally as a Behavioural Detection Officer.
This course is widely regarded as the benchmark for proactive threat detection training in the UK.
This qualification is accredited to Level 3 and is recognised in both the UK and internationally.

DURATION
The course is delivered over 3 days, typically running 10:00 – 18:00 each day.
Delivery includes classroom-based learning, scenario work and live public deployment exercises.

LIVE DEPLOYMENT EXERCISES
Learners will take part in two live public deployment exercises:
- One formative exercise to develop skills and confidence
- One formally assessed exercise to validate operational competence
ASSESSMENT
Assessment is conducted through practical observation and scenario-based deployment exercises, mapped against Level 3 qualification standards.
CERTIFICATION
On successful completion, learners will receive a Level 3 Behavioural Detection Officer (BDO) Qualification, recognised in the UK and internationally.
