*** This Course is a MANDATORY REQUIREMENT to retain and renew the SIA Close Protection Licence after 01 April 2026 ***

As of 01 April 2022, the Level 3 Close Protection course has increased to 18 days to include the additional training requirements set out by the SIA, including the compulsory modules around working as a Door Supervisor and Physical Intervention for both Close Protection Operatives and Door Supervisors.

This was further supported with the delivery of 'Top-Up' Training between October 2022 - October 2025.

This 3 Day Refresher Course has been implemented to align existing SIA Close Protection Licence holders with the updated modules of training.

DURATION

The course is run "blended", with 10 Hours of E-Learning (Home Self-Study) and 3 Days of Face-to-Face Classroom Sessions

MODULES

Unit 1: Principles of Working as a Door Supervisor in the Private Security Industry (Refresher)

  • Know how to conduct effective search procedures
  • Understand how to keep vulnerable people safe
  • Understand terror threats and the role of the security operative in the event of a threat
  • Know how to safeguard the public from incidents of spiking

Unit 2: Application of Physical Intervention Skills in the Private Security Industry (Refresher)

  • Know the implications of physical interventions and their use
  • Know the risks associated with using physical intervention
  • Know how to reduce the risks associated with physical intervention
  • Be able to proficiently and safely use physical skills to protect yourself and others
  • Be able to use non-pain compliant standing, holding and escorting techniques safely

Unit 3: Application of Physical Intervention Skills for Close Protection Operatives in the Private Security Industry 

  • Know how to analyse an incident to identify and mitigate risks to safety
  • Understand alternative considerations to the use of force and extended risks from the initial event
  • Understand the necessity for narrowing the concentric layers of protection when managing an immediate threat to the principal
  • Know how to apply physical intervention skills in a justifiable, ethical and professional manner
  • Be able to use non-pain compliant skills to protect self from assault
  • Be able to use non-pain compliant methods of protecting the inner cordon
  • Be able to protect the principal from assault

Prerequisites

You MUST hold a Verified & Accredited Level 3 Award in First Aid at Work (FAW), First Response Emergency Care (FREC), First Person on Scene (FPOS) Qualification or equivalent, which must be achieved prior to the commencement of any security training and have at least 12 months remaining until expiry.
